IRS announces tax relief for victims of Tropical Storm Debby

in North Carolina; various deadlines postponed to Feb. 3, 2025

to include the due date of timely filed extensions.




The Due Date for 2023 individual tax returns is currently set for Monday, April 15, 2024.  Automatic (no questions asked) six month extensions until October 15, 2024, are available by filing Form 4868 no later than April 15, 2024. Extensions do not cover potential tax liabilities. Any potential taxes owed for 2022 should be paid by the due date of the return (April 18, 2023) to insure no penalties or interest charges. (For taxpayers within Federal Disaster Areas, there may be other due dates that are not listed here.)

The IRS will begin processing 2023 tax returns on January 23, 2024.  Taxpayers claiming EITC and ACTC  may experience delays in receiving refunds. 


Due Date for 2023 Corporate, S-Corporation, and Partnership tax returns with calendar year reporting is March 15, 2024.  Automatic (no questions asked) six month extensions are available by filing Form 7004. Extensions do not cover potential tax liabilities. Any potential taxes owed should be paid by the original due date of the return to insure no penalties or interest charges.

State tax returns generally have the same due dates, but in some instances State tax returns may have different due dates and extension periods. 

North Carolina Dept of Revenue  is one of the many States that is currently following the Federal decision and currently has a due date for Individual tax returns of April 15, 2024.
